Sen. Parent is member of the Government Oversight, Judiciary Non-Civil, Science and Technology, and Special Judiciary committees.
Senator Parent previously served as the State Representative for District 81 in DeKalb County in 2011 and 2012. Senator Parent then continued her public service as the Executive Director of Georgia Watch, the state’s leading consumer rights non-profit.
Senator Parent began her career as a litigation attorney at Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. She is active in her community and has served on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer and the Foundation Board of the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers. Currently, she serves on the Board of Visitors for Emory University and the Advisory Board for Olmsted Linear Park Association. She is a proud graduate of the University of Virginia and the University of Virginia School of Law.
Recently, Senator Parent was listed in the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s “Who's Who Sustainability” feature for her leadership on energy and environmental policy issues. In 2011, she was the recipient of two prestigious awards in recognition of her legislative accomplishments: the Fulton County Daily Report’s “On the Rise” and the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s “40 Under 40”. She was also named a member of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2013.
Senator Parent traces her core beliefs – the importance of family and making the community a better place for all - to her upbringing in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol where her parents stressed the importance of faith and public service.
Senator Parent is married to Briley Brisendine and they became proud parents with the birth of their son, Brooks, in February 2010. Their second son, Reid, was born in December 2012. They are members of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta.

Met with patient to discuss D/C plan and MD's recommendations. Consumer is a 49 yr old white male referred from DRCC due to a need to continued hospitalization. Consumer voluntarily presented at DRCC on 08/1 0111 at which time, he was floridly psychotic and manic. Consumer was + for amphetamines. He was not cooperative with treatment at DRCC and was loud manic and intrusive. He required seclusion due to intrusiveness and another consumer threatening to beat him up. As a result of this behavior, consumer was transferred to GRHA for continued care. Consumer's mother called initially requesting to have consumer surrender his house key so that the neighbor could care for his cats who had been in the house all week. Mother expressed concern asked consumer being discharged due to behavior exhibited while at DRCC. Mother stated that consumer really needs help and will not be consistent with outpatient care. Stated that she wanted to have him committed in the past, but he "was on his best behavior" when she came to town from Arkansas to do so. Mother stated that she has learned of consumer's behavior within the past 9 months. SSP unaware if mother knows about consumer abusing amphetamines since 1999 and the effects likely being the cause for his behavior. Information was not shared as consumer did not give consent. Mother expressed concern about consumer potentially harming others due to his fascination and "happiness" over the shooting of Congress woman Gabrielle Gifford in Jan 2011. She stated consumer said he could not guarantee he would never act in a similar manner as the shooter. Though she had concerns about this statement, she had no concrete evidence of consumer having any homicidal plans and never told anyone about the conversation. Mother was advised that her concerns would be noted and was advised of the affidavit process should she need to use it. Mother stated that she is familiar with the process. Consumer was evaluated and found not to meet admission criteria. He was released and sent to DRCC to retrieve his vehicle in order to return home. Consumer to flu with Winn Way in order to access services at DAC but SSP unable toobtain appt before die. Will follow up with consumer on 08116111.

Mary Margaret Oliver, a native Georgian from DeKalb County, served in the Georgia House of
Representatives from 1987-1992 and was then elected to the State Senate, where she served three
terms. In July, 1998, Oliver left the Senate to run for Lieutenant Governor and finished first, ahead
of six Democratic challengers. She lost in a runoff to the second place finisher. In 2003, Oliver was
elected to the House where she continues to serve, representing the 82nd District.
When Oliver was elected to the Senate, she was appointed to chair the Judiciary Committee during
her freshman term, a rare legislative distinction. The appointment was also notable in that it
marked the first time in 40 years that a woman had been named to chair a standing Senate
committee. During the 2004 session, she was appointed Chair of the House Judiciary Committee,
becoming the first person to serve as Chair of both House and Senate Judiciary Committees and the
first woman to ever serve as Chair of either committee.
Oliver currently sits on the House Appropriations, Judiciary, Governmental Affairs, Juvenile Justice
and Science and Technology Committees. She was appointed by the Georgia Supreme Court to the
Committee on Justice for Children and by Speaker David Ralston to the Special Council on Criminal
Justice Reform.
Oliver’s legislative accomplishments have included authoring and passing significant legislation for
the protection of children and consumers, including Georgia’s anti-stalking law, along with
legislation to protect neighborhood activists from intimidation. In recent years, she successfully
sponsored a bill expanding the definition of mandated reporters of child abuse and legal
recognition of post adoption custody agreements.
She has been honored for her legislative work, being named Woman of Achievement by the Atlanta
YWCA and Legislator of the Year by the Garden Club of Georgia. In 2011, she was given the Common
Cause Democracy Award and the Georgia Conservation Voters Legacy Award. In 2013, she won the
Big Voices for Children Award given by Voices for Georgia’s Children.
Oliver is a former long time member of the Decatur Rotary and continues to attend All Saints
Episcopal Church, where she teaches Sunday school.
She earned a BA from Vanderbilt University and a law degree from Emory University. She served as
a visiting professor at the Barton Child Law and Policy Center at Emory and prior to her Legislative
service was a Magistrate Court Judge in DeKalb County. In 2011, in honor of the 175th anniversary
of Emory, Oliver was one of 35 women out of 175 or so Emory History Makers – those individuals
who have shown courageous and ethical leadership on behalf of the greater community and a
legacy of imparting knowledge to others and making significant contributions to the life at Emory.
Oliver continues to practice law in Decatur.

Although I had returned from Georgia Regional Hospital with copies of my medical records the same day I later that afternoon violated Bob and Janet Gary's restraining order with an email not only nothing but words but words to be true, it was not until a couple of years later that I actually sat down and took a good look as to what information these medical records contained.
Out of the many surprises I discovered within these medical records, it was reading of a conversation between my mother and someone at Georgia Regional Hospital I'm believing to be Dr. Parker throwing me for a loop.
Never once have I expressed fasicination with the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford in a conversation with anyone. Nor have I ever once expressed an interest in behaving in a similar manner harming anyone. Do not even remember having a conversation with my mother about the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford or any other shootings.
However, I'm not going to claim outright that me an my mother never have touched upon the topic of Congresswoman Gifford's shooting briefly during one of our many long distance phone conversations as current topics making the news predominate most of phone conversations as my mother doesn't care to hear anything relating to the alternative lifestyle I've been living since the age of twenty-three when I first told her I was gay; the same evening vaguely threathing to kill herself.
I was livid reading about this conversation between my mother and someone at Georgia Regional Hospital.
I called her up immediatedly and confronted my mother over this allegation. She denies ever telling anyone at Georgia Regional Hospital about a fascination of mine with the shooting of Gabrielle Gifford. Didn't know what to do at this point. Although I do not trust my mother any more, they never questioned me while I was involuntarily commited at Georgia Regional Hospital for five and one half weeks about an interest in harming other either.
But then again, there are these six unnannounced, unwelcomed visits to my home by DeKalb Crisis Center over concerns that I may have homocidal/suicidal tendencies. On my attempts trying to get copies of record regarding these six visits to my home, I'm being told that they cannot release these records to me as they are not legit medical records.
Nurse Vicki Jacobs tells me there's not much written in them anyway..?
