My photo
Hearing impaired (tendency to appear dumb, dense, and/or aloof), orthodox atheist (believe faith more harmful than doubt), self depreciating sense of humor (confident/not to be confused with low self esteem), ribald sense of humor (satorical/mocking when sensing Condescension), confirmed bachelor (my fate if not my choosing), freakish inclination (unpredictable non-traditionalist opinions), free spirit (nor conformist bohemian) Believe others have said it better...... "Jim! You can be SO SMART, but you can be SO DUMB!" "Jim! You make such a MARTYR of yourself." "He's a nice guy, but...." "You must be from up NORTH!" "You're such a DICK!" "You CRAZY!" "Where the HELL you from?" "Don't QUITE know how to take your personality." My favorite, "You have this... NEED... to be....HONEST!"

Carol Allen Bulmer "Setting the example"...I hope not! This guy needs help and so do the poor citizens who have to endure his harassment. He's breaking the law via multiple ordinances. Come on, Dekalb Co. clean this mess up. This has gone on way too long!

Doug Pittman Mike Fletcher you get to speak your mind, right ? So should your opposition as long as its non confrontational or physical. Bite me!

Jazmyne Alon You're a part of the problem.
Manage
Doug Pittman Jazmyne Alon you too get to say your speech, right? Why not others ? You spew hate speech as I see and no one berates you! Why not this man or anyone else ? You Bedwetters want it all one way which is NOT how America was formed. Free Speech is a right not a choice ! It's only offensive if YOU do not subscribe to what someone else believes. Get a life and read the constitution- or is it " r a c i s t " too?

Amber Bayer As much as it sucks, if his neighborhood has no rules about it. Turn your head. The attention just encourages the behavior.

Amy Kirby There's no way to ignore him. It's a small two lane residential road and his house is on a curve. When he's standing at the end of his driveway, there's no way you aren't going to see him and he takes advantage of that. To make matters worse, traffic often backs up, meaning you could be sitting in standstill traffic right in front of him for several minutes.
Manage
Patty Taylor Good gosh. You libs are offended by anything and everything. Give him no attention and ignore him....

I did not think yelling anything that incites violence was covered under freedom of speech?

Mary Ann Burney Allen After watching the Westboro Baptists, Occupy Wallstreet, and the Million Woman March I would say "Sure it's covered". Until you start hurting folks like Antifa, you can say what you want. But this guy is getting all the attention he's been craving.
Manage
Geremy Gohlstin I pass by his house everyday. The guy is racist. He says the "n" word when I pass by and gives me the middle finger. Something needs to be done.

Manage
Mary Ann Burney Allen Thomas R Burnsed Jr I was thinking maybe try a different tack. Wave in a friendly way. Treat him like a neighbor. Leave a coffee cake (not poisoned) with a friendly note on his doorstep. Might just really confuse him. But if he's thinking about what's happening, maybe it will distract him.
Manage
Jane Coleman Smith I drive by this guy every day on the way home from work at Emory. It is not the signs so much as that he stands there and sometimes makes "gun" gestures. I always wonder if I am someday going to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Probably should change my route!

Mary Ann Burney Allen Jane, I promise that he can't actually hurt you with a finger gun. Until you see him holding an ACTUAL firearm, just look the other way. Or really confuse him and wave in a friendly way.

Stephanie Blades This racists bigot isn't expressing his freedom of speech act, he is expressing hate and bigotry. He is a disturbed bigot that is insighting violates and bigotry. And need to be held accountable for it. Because that was a african american man doing this, he would've been in jail and evicted out of his home with no questions asked. The people there need to get a petition to have him remove those hate sign and to move off their block.

Rhonda Jane Fridinger He may have the right to have the signs but hollering at the traffic could definitely distract drivers. Also if he's hollering obscenities in front of minor children and police witness it they can arrest him! They should stand and just wait! In Texas you can be ticketed for flipping someone the finger which I also heard he was doing! Not sure about here but if this is allowed to go on they need to change a lot of laws.

Rhonda Jane Fridinger Ray Adrian he was using F words and others that are! Gwinnett does have laws against using those words in front of a minor! The catch is the police have to witness them being said.

Mary Ann Burney Allen Perhaps you need to check the ordinances in DeKalb County. They may be different than Gwinnett.

Mike Fleming This man's house is around the corner from mine, and it's unsightly to be sure. I'm one able to drive by and look, or not look depending on the day, and am definitely in the minority around here who view it as a unique inner city phenomenon, site to see and person to avoid. This has been going on for years and years and years, and beyond the property and neighborhood issues, the root of the problem is untreated mental illness and the complete lack of recourse to help him fix it. It makes the homeowner volatile and dangerous, and I fear what would happen if some authority was able to shut down the yard situation and effectively ramp up his need to express his angry delusions in some other way.

Geremy Gohlstin So let me say this to all of you who say just let him be it's his yard. See that's the problem with society, no one wants to do their job. Yes it's his yard. Yes he has the freedom of speech, but the issue goes beyond that. He stands at the edge of his yard doing this. This is in a slight curve also. He's yelling, acting like he's shooting you, calling people like me out of my name, and I'm just supposed to be ok with it? Or go a different route? Why do I have to be inconvenienced because of an idiot. For one it's a traffic hazard. This is why America is in the state it is in today. People want to ignore things. Just like some people want to ignore the fact that racism is still alive and stronger than ever. Ignore people like my ancestors and the Native Americans that were done wrong also. It's time to put a foot down. Something needs to be done and done now. What we are supposed to wait til he decides he wants to start shooting at cars to do something? Hell no. Because I may be one of the ones getting shot at it shot. Wake up people. Stop making excuses.

Ilysse Henner Rhomberg I don't know where this is but I think if a majority of the neighbors get together and start an HOA they can make it so only certain signs or no signs at all allowed and legally have the signs removed. You do have to have a certain percentage of the homes in the area to start the HOA but that shouldn't be an issue. Then everyone needs to pitch in and hire a lawyer.

Sean McGuire I'm not a psychiatrist, but I think this guy has some issues that definitely need to be addressed. Yes some of it is freedom of speech, but the three monkey thing is way overboard. Although he says it has a different meaning, I don't see it that way and neither would a lot of people. Make the signs more "clean" (Rated PG or G) and maybe people wouldn't get so offended. Before people start yelling snowflake, do you want your kid have a neighbor putting signs up on your street that have cuss words on them? Stop cussing and giving the middle finger to people and people MAYBE will want to have a open dialogue with you.

Yoshino Shinriku Aside from the signs, it sounds like this man has some serious mental issues. I'd worry less about the signs and more about what he's physically doing. If he's mentally unstable and has firearms in his home that could be a serious danger.

it's not a violation of his 1st amendment rights to do this.

technically it's vandalism, but not of any valuable property.

James Avery LOL They are already being stolen in broad daylight! And these are the third set of sock monkeys. The second set I went with the more colorful patterned ones trying to negate these accusation of racism being hurled at me. When those got stolen...BROAD DAYLIGHT...along with four signs, I went back to the less costly brown ones. They can also be viewed as primates you know. And I especially liked how our Rikki Klaus cut me off after "set the examples to follow.," excluding, "they also can mean looking the other way, refusing to acknowledge, feigning ignorance. In other words, cancelling out the first set of monkeys. When spinning both perspective into a single narrative, they cancel each other out being most unhelpful. You might as well hang them. Hang them from a cross. Seven years later. They are still being pasted around as the proof that I'm a racist even though I have willingly explained them to anyone taking the time asking me what they mean, And I've yet to see a single posting to my defense by anyone as to their true meaning by me. Even by our Rikki Klaus of Channel 2 who could have as least let me finish all of what I was able explaining to her before changing the topic to something else.http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php... She definitely came expecting in interview entirely different than the one she got. And the other thing, was it necessary censoring "Immaculate ejaculation"? "Ejaculation" can also mean...an abrupt utterance! In other words, my word against the words of an old lady wife to a nationally known pastor (at least with the church) who said, "Oh! We're not that kind of Christian!" In response to me introducing myself to her as, "My name is James Avery. I'm a veterinarian who lives in this house. Not only am I gay, I'm atheist as well." This was just my way of politely telling an old lady having introduced herself after crossing over to my side of the street first first., "Now that you know, if a problem, then just get back on your side of the street and stay there."
