Most of us are familiar with the tales of the reclusive cat lover who died in a locked house or apartment and whose starving cats began to consume her body. Often it is viewed as her just desserts - to be consumed by the animals whose company she valued over human company - and excused as an act of desperation by her pets.

More recently, soldiers in Najaf, Fallujah, Bosnia and other war-torn regions have brought back tales of feral cats eating bodies of the fallen. Some of these veterans have been so disturbed by the sight that they have developed an irrational fear or hatred of friendly pet cats back home.

What is so horrifying about the sight, or even thought, of cats (or dogs) eating dead humans?

CAT THE PET

In cat-keeping countries, cats are viewed as friendly domestic pets whose predatory instincts have been curbed, eliminated or confined to small prey. They also scavenge from bins and unattended plates. While many owners try to deter these behaviours, they are well aware that cats instinctively hunt and are attracted to fresh carrion. This is the acceptable view of cat the predator and scavenger.

Apart from owners of barn cats and those who profit from kitty-mills, most owners view cats as family members. Some owners erroneously scribe human emotions and motives to their cats (anthropomorphism). Quite how cats relate to humans is debated, but they do not regard us as prey. Cats lick us as they would lick other cats, they play with us and they often cuddle up with us to sleep. Those owners who accept their pets as non-human family members with non-human behaviours would, in general, still not want to think of cats eating the flesh of their caregivers.

CAT THE SCAVENGER

Abandoned and feral cats, especially those is war-torn areas, rarely have regular sources of food. They must scavenge whatever sources of food they find - dustbins, handouts and dead bodies (including their own species). Desperate ferals have been seen eating soiled nappies and sanitary napkins as well as bread, fruit and vegetables that cats cannot digest. Some have resorted to eating earth just to assuage their hunger. Post mortems of feral cats have found some to have stomachs full of insects.

Bodies of larger animals pose problems as the domestic cat's jaws are designed for small prey hence they are most likely to tackle the extremities such as fingers and toes. Although cats normally avoid decomposing flesh to avoid food poisoning, cats with no other options will try to eat a dead body that has begun to rot and soften.

At the 1992 American Academy of Forensic Sciences conference in New Orleans, a forensic pathologist stated that individuals living alone sometimes died unexpectedly and unnoticed. He claimed that, in his experience, a pet dog would go for several days before it resorted to eating the owner's body. A pet cat would wait only a day or two. What he didn't mention was that cats are obligate carnivores and, unlike dogs (which are more omnivorous), cats cannot consume other potential foodstuffs that might be lying around the home (fruit, veg, cookies). For a dog, the corpse might be a last resort, but for an obligate carnivore, it may be the first resort

CONCLUSIONS

What makes the thought of cats and dogs eating corpses so horrifying is our inability to reconcile cat-the-pet with cat-the-scavenger at the same time as understanding that our bodies are meat and bone. Despite human technology and culture setting humans apart from "lesser animals", we find it hard that nature treats us all the same after death.

Having sanitised the disposal of our dead, we are shocked at seeing human bodies being consumed by scavengers. We are not shocked at nature documentaries showing scavengers consuming dead beasts, but we are unable to consider a dead human in the same light as a dead antelope. Most of us want human dead to be treated with dignity, to do otherwise offends our sensibilities.

Even where it is acceptable for scavengers to consume dead human flesh, that practise is made acceptable by rituals. Where consumption by scavengers is not sanctioned by religious beliefs, it is offensive to us.

A PERSONAL VIEW

For my part, I'm not disturbed at the thought of my dead body being consumed by scavengers - after all, my mind and my sense of propriety won't be there to be worried about it. My family, and unrelated well-meaning humans, might be less keen at my remains being treated in what they consider undignified manner. What makes me an individual is my mind, something that will no longer present after death.

Dylann Roof is not an extremist

https://www.opendemocracy.net/transformation/zoe-samudzi/dylann-roof-is-terrorist-but-he-is-not-extremist: While Dylann Roof’s manifesto was unspeakably racist and admittedly painful to read, white self-identified liberals or progressives should read it. The description of white supremacist racial processes is surprisingly astute (though his understanding unfortunately led him to violence rather than an active challenge of their legitimacy and function). In particular he takes to task white liberals who move to areas to attend better schools. His criticism of “white flight” to suburbia points out that many white liberals are not vastly different from him in their internalization of white supremacy (though their expression differs drastically).

While all non-Black people of color must address anti-Blackness in their own communities, white liberals should very carefully analyze their own politics and the ways in which their white privilege ultimately maintains structures of racial oppression.

There are some very tangible things that white liberal and progressive allies can do to challenge white supremacy in the spaces they occupy.They can stop allowing casual racist jokes and comments to go unchallenged. They can share anti-racist narratives from Black people and people of color rather than simply similar comments made by white liberals. They can be mindful of the demands that they as “allies”make from Black people (e.g. demanding support and information, which takes away a person’s time and energy).

But the most crucial thing white people can do is to engage mindfully with people of color in discussions of racism: to recognize the assumptions they carry as a result of socialization are likely steeped in white supremacy to some degree, and to really listen to and trust what people of color tell them about racism. Only through honest discussions about white supremacy and actively taking responsibility for identity-privileging structures can white Americans play their role in upending and ultimately dismantling still existing settler colonial structures.

When comparing between any two guns,

Can't help but see two Uncle Tom's kissing up to a gay white man not only a pastor but also campaigning to be elected the next GA State House Representative for District 59; a young African-American looking as if a deer caught in the beams of three sets of headlights barrel racing straight for him.

As this young man was only one of six African-Americans rounded up within minutes not far from the crime scene, they obviously were not making much of an effort... not getting caught.

Would hardly even call it an assault with...

a deadly weapon.

So...

the question is whether or not this gun efficiently produced the it's desired intention given the amount of time?

And for whom is this gun benefiting?

Who is the true victim here?

I received your public records request for four Emory Police reports. The relevant statute, O.C.G.A. 20-8-7, which governs "public disclosure of campus police records," provides that:

"Law enforcement records created, received, or maintained by campus policemen [sic] that relate to the investigation of criminal conduct and crimes as defined under Georgia law and which are not subject to protection from disclosure by any other Georgia law shall be made available within a reasonable time after request for public inspection and copying."

One of the reports you requested, regarding case number 1102044, documents an investigation into a crime as defined under Georgia law. A copy of that report is enclosed.

Since the other three reports you requested do not document allegations of criminal conduct, they are not subject to release under the statute.

Please let me know by return mail if you have any questions regarding our handling of your request.

NARRATIVE

On 5/17/2011 at 1335 hours, I met with Stephen Sencer, Senior Vice President and General Counsel,
in reference to a stalking report. Sencer said that on 5/16/11 at 1610 hours he was asked by Audrey
Turner, Business Manager for the President's Office, to speak to a male subject who wanted to see
President Jim Wagner. Sencer said that the male subject, later identified as James Avery, told him that
he wanted to see President Wagner. Sencer said he asked Avery, "What do you want from Jim
Wagner?" Sencer said the subject started rambling that the president had not responded to the earlier
package he left. See case number 1102003

Sencer said at that time he advised Avery that he was not going to be able to see President Wagner.

Sencer said Avery gave him an envelope to give to President Wagner. He escorted Avery down the stairs and out of the building. Sencer said that he did not feel threatened by Avery, but did say Avery appeared to be confused.

Detective Meeks retrieved the paperwork that Avery left with Stephen Sencer for investigation.

As Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Steve Sencer is the chief legal officer for Emory University, including Emory Healthcare, as well as affiliated entities such as The Carter Center and DRIVE. Sencer is also Senior Advisor to the University President, advising the president on strategic priorities and initiatives. Sencer has taught courses at Emory’s School of Law and the Laney Graduate School, is a senior fellow at Emory’s Global Health Institute, serves on the Global Health Chronicles Advisory Board, and co-founded the Emory-South Africa Drug Discovery Training Program and GAP BioSciences, a life sciences business education program taught in South Africa.

Sencer specializes in legal issues relating to higher education, scientific research, technology transfer, global health, risk management and corporate governance. He serves on the Board of Clifton Casualty Insurance Company and served a three-year term on the Board of the National Association of College and University Attorneys. He serves on the AAU General Counsel Committee and the United Educators Legal Advisory Board.

Sencer has a BA (Honors) from Wesleyan University and a JD from the University of Michigan Law School, where he served as Managing Editor of the Michigan Law Review. He practiced law with Williams & Connolly in Washington, DC, and King & Spalding in Atlanta, GA, and served as a trial lawyer in the DeKalb County (GA) District Attorney’s office. He clerked for Judge Amalya Lyle Kearse on the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, sitting in New York City.

I suppose this is the guy who walked me down the stairs and out the side entrance. Remember him being sort of a little guy..?

NARRATIVE

On 10/7/14 at approximately 1515 hours, I spoke with the complainant, Glenn Church Communications

Director Sara Ladew, by phone in reference to suspicious activity. Ms. Ladew informed me that subject

James Avery has been showing up at the Glenn Church requesting a meeting with the staff pastors.

Ms. Ladew stated that Mr. Avery showed up at Glenn Church on 9/24/14 and spoke with Business

Administrator Betty jo Copelan to request a meeting with the staff pastors. Ms. Ladew said that Mr.

Avery showed up a second time on 10/6/14 at approximately 1530 hours and spoke with her requesting

to meet with staff pastors. Ms. Ladew informed me that Mr. Avery was not confrontational during either

incident. Ms. Ladew told me that during both incidents, Mr. Avery showed them emails that he has

sent to Reverend Josh Amerson and Dr. Alice Rogers requesting a meeting with them.

Ms. Ladew said that Mr. Avery has been requesting meetings with Dr. Rogers and Reverend Amerson

because he wants to discuss "religion" with them. Ms. Ladew stated that Mr. Avery told her that he is

an atheist and that he has questions for Dr. Rogers and Reverend Amerson. Ms. Ladew informed me

that Mr. Avery also told her that he was a previous meth addict and that he wanted to talk to the pastors

about meth usage.

Ms. Ladewadvised me that she was reporting these incidents to EPD because she was aware that Mr.

Avery was involved in previous incidents that were connected to President Wagner. I advised Ms.

Ladew to contact EPD if she or any staff members observe Mr. Avery at the Glenn Church on a later

date.

I provided Ms. Ladew with the case number for this report.

Although mail poststamped March 13, 205, I'm just now opening it. Only one out of four reports I'm understanding to have been included in this active file I'm having with the Emory police was released to me by the Custodian of Emory Police Records Mr. Shoemaker.

I wonder if Mr. Shoemaker even aware that a Detective Meeks had already given me what he said was the most recent incidence report which had been called into the Emory Police by Sara Ladew, Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church Communications Director.

The more they hide, the more I'm learning about our secular Methodist institution of Emory University.

And what I'm learning about our Methodist...
it's not pretty.

Dear Rev. Josh,

I haven't heard anything from your office about a meeting between, you, me, and Rev. Dr. Alice. It was my impression when I left that this meeting was going to happen. Originally I was only wanting an hour minimum with Alice to discuss a concern of mine as it would relate to counseling for my crystal meths addiction from a place such as Pastoral Care Of Georgia.

After running into BJ and observing her behavior when only coming by to drop off two hula hoops I thought would make a clever invitation, reminders, as well as props that could be used during our conversations about set theories and how it relates to ecumenism; I'm not so sure now.

I've since realized that you had interrupted my conversation with Sara your communications director; and maybe wrong in assuming you heard the first part about just an hour minimum with Alice and the topic I wanted to get out of the way first. May not even take an hour.

Well, I've given you enough, from my perspective at least anyway, how I justify me seeking these answers at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church as my mother is still a member there; as well as older than Bob and Janet Gary. Maybe even still driving her car. Haven't asked. We are no longer talking at my insistence.

Please let me know that you have received this email, at least, as your church is not the only one I've consulted with. They all seem to be having problems with receiving their emails, so some of them have claimed when showing up with a hard copy in person. I'm just assuming Alice is having problems with her emails as well.

Answer one question for me Josh, did my mother fail me by taking me to that Methodist Church in Prescott, Arkansas as a child which I continued to be a part of until 18 years of age. You certainly are failing her. And this being a church on the campus of a liberal arts and science university. Can't even arraign for a fair hearing/clearing of the facts.

Is it fair for one's problem to be considered a psychosis when the triggers for his supposedly bipolarism (a medical misnomer) is the survivors/confirmation bias of others.

I'm not about to pay Care and Counseling Center of Georgia $130.00/hour for counseling. However, I'm am willing to allow Emory University providing me with a counselor of their choosing only on the condition I can audiotape these sessions individually as well as comparing these audio taped sessions with copies of note made by counselor collected at each following sessions.

And I as live alone, no one to concur with at all except a cat, these will be uploaded to my blog for my protection against the congeniality biases of other.
