James Avery A Balanced and a Tragic Vision of Humankind :

There is a fragile line between raw emotional intelligence and emotional competency. One kind of plays with an invisible fire, where the rules are rewritten by forces of education, tradition and vulnerabil
ity inside the wires of the brain cells, mirror neuron mind and its neuroscience factors.

What can one believe... in the end... is that we are in a body with limitation and in a mind with huge capacities but with powerful black holes.

And... one can...think... about working with the flow of the river of the snap social decisions and the personal myths and fictions one constructs through the elements of culture, education and each own physical bodies.

Same thing said a different way...
“believes in the existence of inherent limitations and flaws in the way we think and act and requires an acknowledgement of this fact as a basis for any individual and collective action.”

James Avery So! If there is a balanced option, I've yet to see any evidents in support of that possibility. Although pretty much an argument for big government, you can't legislate morality. What I'm currently yelling at the traffic as they drive by: JOHN 3! MINUS 1-15! F**K YOU, YOU HYPOCRITE! IN GOD WE TRUST? WHY NOT!!! JOHN 3! MINUS 1-15!
Manage
James Avery To all my culturally arrogant progressive elitist neighbors: UNFORTUNATELY FOR ALL OF US, YOU HAVE GOTTEN US THE PRESIDENT YOU DESERVE! GO! GO! GO! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! GO!!! in God we trust!

James Avery I'm the bad neighbor this newscast is about. I'm going to explain up front the meaning behind the three monkeys hanging by their necks off one arm of a large cross nail to a tree. They generally mean being of sound mind, body and action. They can also mean looking the other way, refusing to acknowledge, feigning ignorance. When combining both perspective into a single narrative, the cancel each other out being most unhelpful. You might as well hang them. Hang them from off one arm of a cross. Fast forward seven years later. Although have explained the meaning behind these monkey to anyone walking sidewalk front of my home willing listening; still coming back around to me that these monkeys are racially motivated.

Sue Perkins Why do you want to be a jerk? Are you enjoying yourself at the expense of others? Isn't that selfish?

James Avery As we must first be introduced to God before being aware of God. As I was born into First United Methodist Church of Prescott, Arkansas, population four thousand. Helped raised by that church up until graduating high school. As stuff put into our heads when a kid never really goes away. I'm realizing only recently, although label myself radical atheist, that I have always been and forever always will be Methodist till the day I die no less than Jesus every stopped being a Jew. That one can be both Methodist F*g and radical Atheist at the same time while refusing to label himself Christian. Now if others (including our Muslim extremist halfway around the world from us) are wanting labeling me a Christian for whatever reasons of their own, they are more then welcome doing so. But let's be honest with ourselves; this isn't how it works with our Christians. Is it? What I'm currently yelling at the Emory (Methodist) traffic leaving campus late afternoon: JOHN 3! MINUS 1-15! "F*CK YOU!" Nothing but a thoughts terminating cliche! Why not truth be God; universal one instead? Why not? Why not? IN GOD WE TRUST! WHY NOT! JOHN 3! MINUS 1-15! As it relates to God, John 3:16 is just another congeniality biased pro-life "MY SIDE" choice. As far as our "Miracle Baby" Tebow goes: Too bad they ain't Catholic. He would have made a great Priest. Unless already, "Hell Mary Santorum." You will just have to google the meaning of "Santorum" yourself. As I have never had vaginal sex with a woman, even at the age of fifty five I'm still technically a virgin.
Manage
Sue Perkins Well, that explains a lot right there!

Charles Langevin The First Amendment is there to protect people with unpopular views. If the neighbors continue to ask the government to harass him, your follow up story will be how large his taxpayer funded settlement check was and how many signs he bought with it.
Manage
Chris Marquez I don't think you understand how the first amendment works. The neighbors aren't getting the police involved because of what he's saying. They're getting them involved because he's become a public nuisance and is driving down property values and delaying/nullifying sales of surrounding homes due to his harassment of others.

John Roberts I don't think you understand the first amendment Chris Marquez. Your rights aren't suspended because of property values and as long as he is following city codes on the number of signs in his yard then he is free to post them there.
Manage
Chris Marquez I understand it very well as I have degrees in political science. Your rights end where mine begin. Freedom of Speech only protects you from being prosecuted from WHAT you say (and there are some limits to that as well). It doesn't protect you from being prosecuted for harassing people. He's cut back the number of signs to be compliant. That's fine. But it's still against the law for him to stand outside and yell at his neighbors and passersby. That creates a public nuisance and you can be arrested or fined for it. The first amendment doesn't protect you from that.
Manage
Toni Arnold He's a meth head. He needs to go to jail.
Manage
Charles Langevin Chris Marquez your political science degree fails you. This is why government keeps violating people's rights. Those in government don't study the Constitution, but rather try to learn a way to circumvent it. Speech cannot be regulated based upon the idea being conveyed. There is no inherent right to be protected from your neighbor doing something on his own property which diminishes the value of yours. See Reed v. Town of Gilbert.
Manage
Charles Langevin Toni Arnold why would he go to jail? Meth is 100% legal (providing you call it Desoxyn). The "drug war" is an excuse to keep poor and brown people in prison and politicians' coffers full of pharmaceutical companies' money.
Manage
Keith Yancey Chris Marquez the first amendment reads thus: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
It does NOT say "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, except when an individual is posting signs in his or her yard that I don't like."
A neighbor putting signs in his yard, no matter how obnoxious they may be, is not harassment and is not a violation of yours or anyone else's rights.
Manage
Chris Marquez There isn't a law forbidding him from putting what he wants on a sign in his yard. But there are laws about how many signs he can have. They were written to protect the rights of his neighbors. He has recently started to comply with that ordinance. So that part is fine. There are also laws forbidding him from creating a public disturbance and verbally assaulting his neighbors. Those laws also do not violate his first amendment rights.

Charles Langevin Chris Marquez there is no such thing as "verbal assault." What poly-sci book did you get that from? 🤣. Every "public disturbance" law that has ever been created restricting speech has been struck down by the Courts. I challenge you to find me an exception.
Manage
Keith Yancey "Verbal assault" isn't a thing. And his neighbors don't have a right to dictate what he does with his property. He's not in an HOA.
If his neighbors don't want to look at his signs, they can pull a Donald Trump and build a "big, beautiful, 7 foot wall" (I don't think Mexico will pay for it though...)
Manage
Steven Newman I don't like what he's doing one bit or the messages on his signs..... But as an American I believe in his right to say it. That is what used to make our nation great, personal freedom. Ordinances that limit the amount of signs and where they can be posted are good laws. I would hate to live next door to him, but his rights stand. We are shifting to a place in this nation where if you feel "offended" by something someone else says, then you want it shut down. That is NOT freedom.

Sabrina Tumminello Ormond Standing on the sidewalk, which is public property, and being disorderly while intoxicated by a controlled substance is grounds for arrest. He admittedly said he is on meth. Arrest him for public intoxication.
Manage
Charles Langevin Sabrina Tumminello Ormond the sidewalk is a public right of way, not public property. The public has the right to USE the sidewalk through easement on his title. Aside from that, public intoxication requires that he be violent or be inciting violence, not just annoying.
Manage
Michael Miller Charles Langevin if he is shouting speech that is detrimental to typically chastized groups of people, the potential for violence is there, so Sabrina Tumminello Ormond has a point.
Manage
Trini Badd Why don't you have him 1013'd and committed to a psych facility?
Manage
Chanda RobertsWhite Who is he harming? When he gets out, the signs will be right back. Can't force someone to psychiatric care if not harm to self if others.
Manage
Tonya Caldwell Might make him worse...
Manage
Trini Badd Tonya Caldwell or it could calm him down.
Manage
Trini Badd Chanda RobertsWhite they do it to people all the time who act out, whether they are harming themselves or others all the time. The police can pick him up to be evaluated. Got to start somewhere sometimes for stuff like this to end. Sorry for those who feel that have to move because of this!!
Manage
Issac Reid you can't just have a person 1013'D. THATS NUTS. They can only do that if you might harm yourself or appear to be a danger to others.

John Roberts In case you forgot about this thing called the #Constitution and the fact that it protects this man's free speech, just remember that #SCOTUSjust recently upheld unpopular speech as free speech.
This is also on this mans private property, so everyone else can just get over it.
Manage
Toni Arnold But he's a crackhead....
Manage
John Roberts But he's still an American citizen...
Manage
Sue Perkins What about the disgusting content of his comments & signs? Children don't need to be exposed to that crap. If I lived with young children in that neighborhood, it would be very upsetting.

Melissa McCurry This guy is already taunting you guys on fb. Lol If he does meth, get him charged on that.
Manage
Chanda RobertsWhite Police would have to catch him using drugs or in possession of such.
He is s nusance but not physically harming others.
Manage
Michael T. Pagano So you follow him...
Manage
Melissa McCurry I read the article posted. He has comments at the bottom. He's an odd duck, that's for sure.
Manage
Melissa McCurry Chanda RobertsWhite he threatens and yells everyday. I would think there could be a solution that makes everyone happy. I don't know what done piss this guy off, but something needs to happen.
Manage
Chanda RobertsWhite True something has to give. If calling the police or complaints increases his eractic and disrespectful behavior, then leave him alone. Ignore him, kill him with kindness. But complaining seems to be a trigger, so let his ornery drug using behind alone.
Manage
Peter Ent He's managed to create a very tricky situation. On the one hand there is freedom of speech and on the other there is how it is adversely affecting his neighbors. Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say anything but he might be just at the edge there. I really feel sorry for his neighbors. The man clearly has mental problems.
Manage
John Roberts actually it does mean exactly that. Unpopular speech is free speech , #SCOTUS just recently reminded Americans of that...
Manage
Michael T. Pagano And then there's the meth...

Mike Jones Terrorize???
verb

create and maintain a state of extreme fear and distress in (someone); fill with terror.

synonyms: persecute, victimize, torment, harass, tyrannize, intimidate, menace, threaten, bully, browbeat; Sounds like what his neighbors are doing to him.

Katie Jones I agree that I thought "terrorize" was a dramatic choice of words. However, my brother lives around the corner from him and I can assure you the neighbors are not the problem.

The root problem appears to be poor mental health and drug use. My brother
finds it sad- doesn't harass him or anything. Just drives by and lets him exercise his first amendment rights while the guy gives him the finger and screams nonsense. It really is a sad situation.
Manage
Mike Jones I'm not defending his actions, and "terrorize" is not the word to use for whats he's doing.
Manage
T.D. Wade Why not just drive past his home to your own home and driveway. Park your vehicle. Walk inside your home and close your door? That way you can mind your own business. You see when you close your door you dont hear or see what is going on outside. You are in your own world. You people influence him by giving him the attention.

Minerva Stodghill That's what I said. Ignore him.Eventually he will go away

Tonya Caldwell This guy reminds me of some folks we have around here that belong to a church ...they stand at intersections with megaphones and Bible verses screaming at people that they must repent or burn in hell...they have a school bus that they also stand on top of and yell ...they come up to your car and give you scriptures about the end if the world and how we all will burn for our sins... We dubbed them the screaming Jesus people... But everyone just ignores them.
Manage
Harry H. VanDusen I agree Tonya, I don't see any difference
Manage
Carla Broyles In this case, it's unfortunate that first amendment rights extend to everyone. But one day he'll likely find himself on the receiving end of someone's second amendment rights. Hey CBS, what's a "relator"? I guess the proofreader's still on vacation.
Manage
Jay Michael Jones I've driven by this place. The guy is loopy, offensive and has harassed some of his neighbors because they were gay - but he's in his own yard and therefore within his rights according to the letter of the law. Maybe in time he will burn through all his money and find himself unemployable and unable to pay his taxes. Then he'll be on the street yelling at passersby until he finally goes to meet his God. Won't he be surprised when he is reminded he should have loved his neighbors?
Manage
Beverly Nickens OMG in the video he said he was addicted to Crystal meth. I didn't know he was on drugs, I just assumed he was just mentally ill. I sometimes pass by his house because I work in that area and he is screaming at the top of his lungs, pointing his middle finger to all the cars that pass by and some of the signs are vulgar and explicit.

I feel sorry for the people that have to live next door to him...I wonder how do they get any sleep with all that yelling.
Manage
Jennifer Silvers Trimble Actually, if they have a little money they can get him out. It will take a couple years but well worth it. The article stated the neighbors have proof that the reason they were unable to sell their home is due to the bad neighbor. The good neighbors can actually ALL sue the bad guy in civil court for the loss of property value etc. All they need is a paper stating the buyer was going to buy the house but decided not to solely due to the bad guy. Of they all sue him for thousands of dollars, they could force him to sell and move or if they get judgement in their favor actually begin seizing his assets including the house if he doesn't pay.
Manage
Brandy Lawrence Sadly , he is protected with first amendment with the signs. Now hollering at passing cars could be disturbing the peace but if it's during the day....it will be hard to press that. Giving him a platform on the news was the worst thing because he craves attention and you gave it to him. Now he definitely won't stop and will probably become even more offensive.
Manage
Pam Johnston I want everybody who is against this guy to remember this - he is fighting for his right to do what he wants on his property. I daresay that we all want that right. Just because you don't agree with what he says or thinks, you need to remember it's within his right. Everybody got behind the guy who had "happy" signs in his yard and said he had a right to do what he wanted. So just remember, your rights don't disappear simply because you don't agree with the message.
Manage
Rebecca Meyers-Enderson Ok so he is addicted to crystal meth can the police just raid his home as a known meth head and then arrest him or302 him to a mental heath facility to get the treatment he needs??? He is escalating.... does he need to actually physically hurt someone before something is done??? He obviously has mental health issues and a drug problem...Come on! This is ridiculous..
Manage
Reggie Miller good for this guy, utilising his rights...sucks for the folks living near him but that's the risk one takes buying into a subdivision or neighborhood with everyone living in close proximity... perhaps if they ever get out of there they will take that into consideration before purchasing again..
Manage
Katherine Gauntt His house is on a curve in the road. More than one accident has occurred as a result. I have passed it a thousand times and have never figured out his point of view because the messages dont make sense. Personally, I think he does it because it annoys others and thats his objective. Just another troll in my book. However, he has created an "attractive nuisance" much like an unfenced swimming pool. My solution...have him build a fence high enough so traffic cannot see the signs and cause an accident. Then, he can "free speech" all day long.
Manage
Cary Hubbard I don't know what his signs say exactly but if they are on his property and he isn't threatened anyone or done harm to anyone leave him be. I don't have signs in my yard about gays or religion but I should have the right to display if I choose to do.so. I understand my views may offend someone but gays are allowed to kiss and display affection in public which offends me, gays are allowed to display gay flags and symbols so straight people should be allowed to display their beliefs as well.
