About Me

My photo
Hearing impaired (tendency to appear dumb, dense, and/or aloof), orthodox atheist (believe faith more harmful than doubt), self depreciating sense of humor (confident/not to be confused with low self esteem), ribald sense of humor (satorical/mocking when sensing Condescension), confirmed bachelor (my fate if not my choosing), freakish inclination (unpredictable non-traditionalist opinions), free spirit (nor conformist bohemian) Believe others have said it better...... "Jim! You can be SO SMART, but you can be SO DUMB!" "Jim! You make such a MARTYR of yourself." "He's a nice guy, but...." "You must be from up NORTH!" "You're such a DICK!" "You CRAZY!" "Where the HELL you from?" "Don't QUITE know how to take your personality." My favorite, "You have this... NEED... to be....HONEST!"

Dear Rev. Sharon,

This is James Avery. I spoke to you after past Sunday night's service about me maybe receiving a copy of the sermon you had just delivered. I had left the house that night in a hurry; forgetting to put on the other, of two, hearing aids. I would very much appreciate a printed version of this sermon if not too much trouble.

Although sitting close, a much smaller room; I heard nothing except a little something about an apron and a little something about laying on the ground.

From my vantage point, I could see that others listening, two women especially, were enjoying your sermon. But from the perspective of someone hearing impaired, it can be difficult distinguishing between someone genuinely pleased with what they are hearing from those having learned to cry by smiling.

Then there are those somewhere else; not listening at all. I did try.

I'm still going through an adjustment period with these two new hearing aids which, supposedly, will improve my hearing quite a good bit if I will just give them more time; so they keep telling me as they always have since my college days. At the moment I feel they pretty much have only set me back $6,390.00 while no income coming in except for a gift check recently from my mother; whom I'm refusing all contact with.

I suppose me having deposited this check makes this claim somewhat false.

SON'S A SON UNTIL HE GETS HIM A WIFE. A DAUGHTER'S A DAUGHTER ALL HER LIFE.

Do you remember the blog article of mine you were kind enough listening to me read to you a while back; after a similar service? The one about two trees debating who was responsible for a little sapling rising up between them?

Have you given any more thought to this piece I read out loud to you? Maybe I should not have roped you into listening to me read my version of the Trinity, by quoting something I read coming from James Wagner, first, about "a sign of true intelligence...".

"IT FITS! IT FITS! ARE WE DONE NOW?"

It was pretty obvious you were not able holding your two conflicting thoughts very well? And I apologize for this.

Well, my father a simple rural country doctor mostly delivering babies, was the one we allowed himself working hard into an early grave; this extra income coming from a trust fund leaving behind, carefully set up with the help of Methodists lawyers, helping take care of his surviving(?)appreciative(?)family in his absence.

SUM OF HIS PARENTS IN HIS FATHERS ABSENCE

And so I hope you are able seeing, the source, the inspiration for my new found understanding of the Trinity.

This is why I was hoping for the possibility of us maybe discussing a way getting Joseph back into this picture, in some way, more appreciative of his contribution to their overall story; as well as the importance of all of history preceding and leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth.

This is what I like about your church; it's eclectic combinations of artworks.

They tell a better story.

But still not the complete story.

Which will never be complete as we all arrive at the future at the same rate of 60 seconds per minute.

Also, one last request.

What are your thoughts on synchronicity? Is this anything discussed as part of a pastor's training?

I've been fascinated by this.....phenomena.. lately.

Sincerely,

James E. Avery, DVM

Jesus Calls Philip And Nathanael

43 The next day Jesus wanted to go to the country of Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Philip was from the town of Bethsaida. Andrew and Peter were from this town also. 45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found the One Moses wrote about in the Law. He is the One the early preachers wrote about. He is Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said, “Can anything good come out of the town of Nazareth?” Philip said, “Come and see.”

47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him and said, “See! There is a true Jew. There is nothing false in him.” 48 Nathanael said to Jesus, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered him, “Before Philip talked to you, I saw you under the fig tree.” 49 Nathanael said to Him, “Teacher, You are the Son of God. You are the King of the Jews.” 50 Jesus said to him, “Do you believe because I said I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than that. 51 For sure, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and God’s angels going up and coming and down on the Son of Man.”
