Hello Josh,

I was not aware that I was not allowed on the campus of Emory University or Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church. The only restraining order I'm aware of had a one year limitation. This all sounds pretty much the same perniciousness and prevarications.

And what happened to "no matter who you are or what you have done or left undone you will be welcomed at Glenn. No matter where you are on your faith road journey you are welcomed at Glenn."

Really....am I going to have to get a lawyer? Is this what it's coming too?

Answer one question for me Josh, did my mother fail me by taking me to that Methodist Church in Prescott, Arkansas as a child which I continued to be a part of until 18 years of age. You certainly are failing her. And this being a church on the campus of a liberal arts and science university.

Can't even arraign for a fair hearing/clearing of the facts.

James Wagner said it himself, "sign of true intelligence is ability holding two conflicting thoughts at the same time and still being able to function."

You have failed.

I've already told you my opinion on John 3:16 ... "Christianity In a Nutshell".....being nothing more than a cognitive dissonance/dissonance reduction chant; nothing more, nothing less. That make you pretty much a dope dealer yourself...you are not innocent...."Pretty Boy Sunday."

"The higher up we go; the more difficult the tests becomes."

There is no such thing as hate being the short end of the same stick it much share with love. You guys have turned "love' into an obscene word.

"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so un-Christ like."
~Gandhi

You really do need to get off that stool and read more books.

Sincerely yours,

James E. Avery, DVM

Does this mean her theology is perfect? I'm sure Rev. Owen would say, "NO!"

James,

In psychology, cognitive dissonance is the mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time, or is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas, or values.
When inconsistency (dissonance) is experienced, individuals tend to become psychologically uncomfortable and are motivated to attempt to reduce this dissonance, as well as actively avoiding situations and information which are likely to increase it.

I want to explain to you the delay in our response regarding a meeting. It has come to our attention that you are not allowed on the campus of Emory University or the grounds of Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church, in accordance with restraining orders held by Emory Police. This is why we cannot invite you here for a meeting, and we want you to be cautioned that the staff is now aware of these circumstances.

Dissonance is felt when people are confronted with information that is inconsistent with their beliefs. If the dissonance is not reduced by changing one's belief, the dissonance can result in restoring consonance through misperception, rejection or refutation of the information, seeking support from others who share the beliefs, and attempting to persuade others.

In our conversations with Beth LaRocca-Pitts, we have also been made aware of the resources to which she directed you for assistance—particularly the Meth-Recovery meeting held at St. Mark UMC and a mental health facility. Alice and I agree, based on the brief encounters that we have had with you, that you would be best served by programs such as these. Neither of us are equipped to address the concerns you have regarding your addiction or the problems you are experiencing with certain members of this and other churches.

The amount of dissonance produced by two conflicting cognitions or actions (as well as the subsequent psychological distress) depends on two factors:
  1. The importance of cognitions: The more elements that are personally valued, the greater the magnitude of the dissonant relationship will be.
  2. Ratio of cognitions: The proportion of dissonant to consonant elements
The pressure to reduce cognitive dissonance is a function of the magnitude of said dissonance.

I would be happy to meet with you at one of the Emory Village restaurants to pray and to listen, but that is all I am able to offer you at this time. Again, to avoid a possibly damaging altercation, let me caution you that the staff here is aware of the restraining orders against you by Emory and Glenn Memorial and will have to call Emory Police should you come on campus again.

Cognitive dissonance theory is founded on the assumption that individuals seek consistency between their expectations and their reality. Because of this, people engage in a process called dissonance reduction to bring their cognitions and actions in line with one another. This creation of uniformity allows for a lessening of psychological tension and distress. According to Festinger, dissonance reduction can be achieved in four ways:

1. Change behavior/cognition
2. Justify behavior/cognition by changing the conflicting cognition
3. Justify behavior/cognition by adding new cognitions
4. Ignore/Deny any information that conflicts with existing beliefs

God’s peace,

josh

Subject: Up coming meeting discussing conceptualization, contextualization, set theory as relates to ecumenism and drug addictions

Hello Josh,

Sorry to be such a pest, but please make an attempt understanding life from my perspective.

"Do not conclude until understanding. Once understanding, do not judge."

Without more information, I am un"ABEL" understanding.

Until then,

"I can of my own self do nothing: as I sense, I judge: and my judgement is just; not because I seek my own will but the will of thy father who has sent me."

Just want to know how much progress we've made toward setting a date for our meeting with Alice.

In the meantime, could you ask Alice this question for me, and either you are Alice let me know of this answer:

If marooned on an island with unlimited food and water, which would Alice rather have for companionship....1) a blue Macaw or 2) turtles?

Why?

THE HOSEA JOKE
BETWEEN
ME AND HER HUSBAND BOB

"She a lying cheating whore but she makes a great metaphor."

This would be my conceptualization (one of many) of our story based on my theological orientation.

The theoretical orientation that you use as a foundation for conceptualization
will usually be the one with which you are most comfortable and the one
you apply to people generally; in contrast, your conceptualization of one
client versus another will not be the same.

Clients’ unique presentations will
relate to different aspects of your theoretical orientation. They may even
challenge you to shift out of your usual preferred theoretical orientation
because a particular presenting problem is best conceptualized or treated
from a different understanding. For example, a therapist who describes himself
as psychodynamic may conceptualize a client with a flying phobia through a
cognitive-behavioral approach, integrating his knowledge about the research
on effective treatments for phobias.

Your theoretical orientation does not
determine how you think in every instance, or determine that you are not
capable of thinking otherwise. Theoretical orientation, as filtered through
our own being and experience, provides guidelines for testing out our
hypotheses about who our clients are, how and why they came to therapy,
with what motivation and unique styles, and how best we can help them to
solve their problems and live more satisfying lives.

Case conceptualization is, therefore, applied theoretical orientation tailored
to the specific client and the client’s contexts, aimed at understanding
the issues that bring the client to therapy and indicating the most effective
interventions. What we learn from the client about his or her history, presenting
problems, and perceived strengths is filtered through our theoretical orientation,
our understanding of human behavior, development, and change.

Conceptualization is your story about this particular client. Thus, an additional
task for novice therapists is to integrate this personal client centered “conceptualization”
with formal/theoretical conceptualization, tailoring to the particularities
of clients.

Josh fails to mention that I originally asked for this meeting to take place in my home so they can see the artwork around my home; giving them a better first impression of me without me having to say anything.  Eventually, I suggested we hold the meeting in their sanctuary; putting fliers up for any to come and listen in on our discussion but not participate. Finally as me and Josh parted, told him I just need witnesses; would leave it up to him to decided how brave he wanted to be.
